For about 10 years, I worked with brides to help them find their wedding dresses and there were a few things I had to know in the first couple of minutes in order to do my job and give her the best shot of finding her dress. So before you go shopping for your wedding dress, have these things in mind and you’ll be on your way to saying yes (again!).
Price Point
This is arguably the most important of the three, because it will make or break your purchase. If the dress is perfect for you, but grossly over-budget, you are going to be so disappointed and will leave frustrated. That’s never a good thing! Make sure you discuss this before you walk through the door to the salon and make sure you are clear with your consultant about your price point.
Your Style
This is my favorite piece. I take note of what the bride wears when she comes to the store and her appearance. These are clues to finding you a dress. If you are trendy and have the latest bag, I know I can push the boundaries of style. On the other hand, if you come in with hair pulled back and have a more relaxed look, I would go for a dress that is comfortable and still stylish (yes, they exist!).
Your Wedding Vision
It certainly makes a difference whether you are getting married on a beach or in a downtown Cathedral and a bridal consultant should be mindful of this. If she doesn’t ask you about your wedding, then you should bring it up so that she can pull dresses that will meet your vision.
Happy dress shopping!
